The airfield is owned by Edd Peacock and
back in the early eighties, Ed and MikeWhitley,
a close neighbour and owner of Cambrai Covers,
had a dream. They wanted to create their
own airfield and fly from it. Some people
called them crazy, but as they where nuts
about flying, they were determined to make
it happen.
Ed wanted it to be an airfield where there were no politics, no committees, no membership fees and no hassle. Just somewhere to go flying, or in the case of the British weather, somewhere to go and talk about flying.
With good fortune they found others with the same idea, and the dream started to come to life. With the help of Ray Thompson, hanger builder supreme, and Steve Mance who took on the role of manager, an airfield was created, deep in the Yorkshire countryside.
What to call it, well airfields are normally named after their geographical locations, so Steve decided on Eddsfield, as indeed the airfield was in Edds field, and the CAA liked it, as the name fits neatly on a half mill chart.
Set in the rolling hills of the East Yorkshire Wolds, with dales, villages and woodland all around, it is probably the best located airfield you will find, and the views are breathtaking.
Eddsfield does not operate a "club" as one of the aims of the founder members was to provide a friendly and personal atmosphere, an aim we hope we have achieved.
So why not drop in and see us, as the kettle
is always on.
